The film has performed below average at the Kerala box office despite starring a megastar.
After exciting us with a intriguing trailer, White has just done the opposite on its release day. The movie that also marked Huma Qureshi’s debut in Malayalam films failed to create any sort of magic at the box office. It reportedly collected only 29 lakh in its opening day at the Kerala box office. Despite starring Mammootty, the movie did not live up to anybody’s expectations. Except for the picturesque locales, White has been severely criticized for the story. After a high grossing film like Kasaba ( also starring Mammootty) in the same month, White has majorly disappointed Mammuka fans. It seems that Kasaba’s success has been dampened by White’s miserable performance.
Kismath starring Shine Nigam and Sruthi Menon also released on July 29th. This love story also opened to a lukewarm response at the box office. However the film has reportedly received postive reviews for its story, so the movie might pick up in this coming week.
But as of now, it looks like Rajinikanth’s Kabali continues to reign even in the second week of its release. Especially since White and Kismath have failed to deliver. Kabali has reportedly crossed the whopping 13 crore mark at the Kerala box office. The gangsta drama has also broken Vikram’s I records which reportedly collected Rs 12.50 crore. So it’s Kabali Da for now while White remains forgotten.
