Varun Dhawan-John Abraham’s Dishoom LOSES OUT to Akshay Kumar-Sidharth Malhotra’s Brothers!

The two Hero genre has been very successful over the years…

Varun Dhawan and John Abraham’s Dishoom released this Friday and we have to say that the film has performed more than everyone’s expectations. There was an average buzz around the film, however the film opened well and grew over the weekend to make it a successful start for Dishoom. The two hero concept plus the raw appeal for Varun and John’s film helped the film very much. But this is not the first time a two hero film has worked at the domestic box office. In fact, Dishoom couldn’t break Brothers and Gunday‘s opening weekend collections too. Check out their comparisons here…

Brothers

Box office collection – Rs 52.08 crore

Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra’s film was one of the highest grossing films of last year. The film was based on two quarrelling brothers and had a lot of action (MMA) in the film, which appealed to the people. While the film opened well, it failed to capitalise on the good start.

Gunday

Box office collectionRs 43.93 crore

Ranveer Singh and Arjun Singh’s action drama was one of the most anticipated films of 2014 and the two goons of Calcutta ruled the box office for quite some while. The film started off well at the box office and continued its fascinating run for a long time. The songs, storyline and even the presence of Ranveer, Arjun and Priyanka (Chopra) helped the film.

Dishoom

Box office collection- Rs  37.32 crore

John Abraham and Varun Dhawan’s action thriller is about two cops who are racing against the time to find India’s premier cricketer, who has been kidnapped a few hours before the most crucial match of their nation. The film has had a decent start at the box office and with a good word of mouth publicity for the film, we are sure it will have a good run at the box office.

Desi Boyz

Box office collection – Rs 28.25 crore

John Abraham and Akshay Kumar’s bromance was one of the most loved elements of the film, however the songs and the hilarious story line also helped the film to get a good opening!

Student of the Year

Box office collection – Rs 27.5 crore

The debut film for Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra was one of the biggest debut movies ever! The duo had lots of energy, masti and action in SOTY and all this helped it to get a good start at the box office.

Dostana

Box office collection – Rs 20 crore

The most hilarious film of 2008, Dostana is about two guys (John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan) who pose as gay characters to get a flat. However, when their hot flat owner (Priyanka Chopra) moves in with them, they both fall for her and what follows will make you ROFL. With such a great story and two strong heroes, the film opened well and earned a decent amount of money at the box office.
