Rumours are he will begin this venture in alliance with a few other big names
The grapevine is abuzz that Siddharth Roy Kapur, the MD of Disney India is all set to end his tenure with the studio. This will end an association that began in 2005 as a senior vice president.
As per a report in Mumbai Mirror, Kapur won’t be renewing his contract with the group though they want him to be on board. He has plans to start his own studio that will produce, market and distribute films. A source told the tabloid that the decision was taken in April after the super success of The Jungle Book and Baaghi. As per a source, “For a while now he has wanted to do his own thing and the studio will be a Rs 400500-crore investment. There are talks of multiple investor-partners, among them are Mukesh Ambani and Ronnie Screwvala.”
Over the years there has been constant speculations of him moving out and starting his own venture but now it seems to be more or less final. “He is expected to continue till the year end till Aamir Khan’s wrestling drama, a Christmas release,” added the source.
We know that Siddharth has had a truly illustrious career with the group. He has been a part of many films that have defined contemporary cinema in many ways. Some of the films include Taare Zameen Par, Jodhaa Akbar, Fashion, A Wednesday!, Dev D, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, Kaminey, Raajneeti, Udaan, Paan Singh Tomar, Barfi!, ABCD, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, The Lunchbox and Chennai Express. He took over as CEO after UTV integrated with The Walt Disney Company in 2012. He is the MD of Disney India from 2014.
