The actors may run into some service tax issues…
Looks like Bollywood celebs are under the scanner these days. A few days back, we heard that the IT department had sent a notice to Shah Rukh Khan so that he declares his offshore account details. And now we hear that the Central Board of Excise & Customs (CBEC) has issued service tax notices to a few other celebs and productions houses too. Apart from SRK, Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Yash Raj Films and Salman Khan Films are being investigated currently.
A leading entertainment portal revealed that the CBEC has asked each of the mentioned firms to disclose all the amounts paid to stars like Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Ranveer Singh. Further the CBEC has also asked the actors to disclose the payments they have received from Yash Raj Films and Salman Khan Films.
However, these are just normal enquiries regarding disclosure of payment done and received by each of the mentioned parties and their is no case involved. On the other hand, SRK‘s notice is a serious investigation. They are checking Shah Rukh’s investments in Bermuda, British Virgin Islands and Dubai. The officials aren’t sure if SRK’s investments outside is directly related to his undisclosed wealth or not. A source close to the development told Economic Times, “The notice was sent under Section 131 of the Income-Tax Act, which empowers tax authorities to conduct enquiries.”
They are digging really deep trying to find out more than his declared ownerships of shares of companies in Tax havens. They want to know how these companies function and who sits on the board. These notices, which have been sent to many industrialists as well, is a bid to add steam to the government’s promise of getting black money back to India.
On the film front, Salman is riding high on the success of Sultan and will begin shooting for his next – Tubelight in the first week of August. On the other hand, Aamir and Ranveer are currently waiting for their next releases – Dangal and Befikre respectively!
