Will Rustom and Mohenjo Daro repeat what Lagaan and Gaddar did years back?
After a long time, two Bollywood biggies are clashing on a single Friday! We are speaking about Akshay Kumar’s romantic thriller Rustom and Hrithik Roshan’s Mohenjo Daro, both of which will be releasing on August 12.
The last time, such a huge clash happened was when Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale had released along with Ranveer Singh’s Bajirao Mastani, and it was the latter who emerged the winner (unless you count Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 as a worthy competitor to Airlift).
When Hrithik Roshan was asked about the clash of both the biggies, he politely declined to give a proper answer to the question by saying he is just an actor in Mohenjo Daro, while Akshay Kumar is both acting and producing Rustom.
So when Akshay was asked about this in a recent press interaction, he said, “It’s (August 12) is a big date, it’s a huge date. It has a lot of holidays (August 15 – Independence Day and August 18 – Raksha Bandhan, plus the weekend). And history has shown that two films which had released on such days, have both made money. It has happened a lot of times. We wish both the films do well.” He cited the examples of both Lagaan and Gaddar – Ek Prem Katha, which were released on the same day, and did huge business at the box office.
When asked whether he spoke to Hrithik Roshan or Mohenjo Daro’s director Ashutosh Gowariker, he said nothing of that sort happened. He also refrained to answer about Shah Rukh Khan postponing Raees to given Salman Khan‘s Sultan an open field during Eid a couple of weeks back.
So what do you think of Akshay Kumar’s optimism? Do you think both the films will work?
