The film manages to hold a strong ground

The much awaited gangsta drama released on July 22 and created  a storm like never before! Rajinikanth’s signature style and action sequences had been applauded by fans although the story received mixed reviews. On its first day, it collected about 42 crores at the box office office India, breaking Sultan’s first day box office records in India. Post which it went to collect an additional Rs 30 crore. By the end of the weekend, the movie had collected Rs 110 crore at the box office in India. At the worldwide box office it collected Rs 200 crore by the end of the opening weekend. And the 4th day surprisingly didn’t see a significant dip as it collected Rs 230 crore. Now the latest updates states the gangsta drama has reportedly collected 250 crores worldwide! However, trade experts state that movie should collect above 300 crores for it to be a profitable venture. What may make that possible is Kabali’s upcoming release in Malaysia, where a decent opening is expected considering a large part of the movie is shot in Malaysia.

At the domestic box office, the movie has raked in Rs 150 crore. Reportedly, the movie has minted over Rs 53 crore in Tamil Nadu, over Rs 35 crore in Andhra Pradesh and Nizam regions, over Rs 20 crore in Karnataka, over Rs 15 crore in Kerala and over Rs 30 crore from rest of India.
While the world was celebrating Kabali, Rajinikanth was in the States far away from the frenzy and the madness. It was only when Rajinikanth returned to Chennai on July 24, he witnessed the Kabali fever live. Overwhelmed, he wrote a letter thanking his fans for Kabali ‘s success. He also went on to explain how shooting for Kabali and Robot 2.0 had left him exhausted  and that is why he had gone to States to recuperate.

Kabali is based on a Malaysian Don who defends the Tamilians there. The movie is directed by Pa Ranjith and also features Dhansika and Radhika Apte. The hit music album which features the widely popular song Neruppu Da was composed by Santhosh Narayanan.
